I love my Olympus FE-4000 July 25, 2010 Kingsley W. Nash (Richardson, TX, US) This is my second FE-4000; I broke my first one. After reading all the negative reviews, I feel that this camera has gotten a bum rap! It has most of the features of much more expensive models and is a trememdous bargain. As for it's performance all you have to do is learn how to make the proper settings and have the patience to wait for the Auto-focus target box to turn green before shooting. If setting the best shooting mode and scenes is to much for you, just use the "iAUTO" mode and everything is automatically selected for you. But you can't just take this camera out of the box point & shoot.
The biggest problem I had was trying to figure out the hopelessly inadequate operating manual supplied on disk by the manufacturer. It is worse than the IRS tax code. I just studied one button at a time until I figured out all the functions for myself.

bad news - good news May 30, 2010 Bbeth I have always liked Olympus and bought this thinking it must be OK. It is a nice looking camera, small, nice display, good user interface. Bad news is it takes lousy pictures, fuzzy and out of focus. i've tried all the resolutions from 12M down to 1M and normal and fine compressions. i've tried in bright light, dim, with flash, without flash and in all the modes from antishake to face detect etc. all the pictures look slightly out of focus. there is no manual focus so there's no way to make it better. read the other reviews before you buy but i'm disappointed in Olympus for letting this out under their name.
Awful excuse for a camera. May 7, 2010 Hana (Colorado) No matter how you set the settings, the picture quality is grainy, the LCD screen is awful, and it isn't easy to use. Don't even think about taking decent pictures in anything other than full sunlight--this camera chokes in lower light. We were so dissapointed with this camera that we bought another Cannon two months after we bought this. We should have just bought a Cannon to begin with!
My Phone takes better pictures March 22, 2010 RestlessinPhoenix (Phoenix,MD) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I may be a bit spoiled by my Canon S5IS camera (which is an in-between SLR and P&S camera)but my wife received this camera for Christmas. When she received it I was a bit hesitant because I was going to buy her a P&S for her birthday soon after Christmas and I did extensive research for smaller P&S cameras.
First - I didn't come with a memory card...which I am not sure any cameras these days come with any but they are pretty cheap these days. So just an FYI...buy a XD or MicroSD card.
Second, I have been fiddling with the settings and well...the pictures are still very bad. My camera phone takes much sharper crisper pictures and it is half of the megapixels plus it is a phone ...so it's main job is phone calls not pictures...
pretty sad that a reputable camera company is putting out Chinese garbage.
Remember: trust reviews (especially the majority's opinion) on Amazon and megapixels don't mean anything when the photo is awful to begin with.
Slim and good looking, horrible picture quality. March 19, 2010 Jennifer (Chicago suburbs, IL, USA) I bought this camera because it looked pretty in the store catalog. However, I was an idiot and did not check to see how the image quality was of the pictures it takes. All of the pictures seem to make the background darker than it really is, and you cannot change it! The design is excellent; the screen of reasonable size. If only the image quality was better...
